Total inches into feet and inches, the way a tape measure reads.
Timber lengths are recorded in inches but the yard reads them in feet and inches. In C2:C6 show each length as, for example, 7 ft 4 in.
Solve it on your own to keep the bonus. Each hint gets one step closer to the formula.
The same formula in the other shapes it takes at work.
This is the grid you start with. Cell references in the task — B6, C2 — point at the row numbers and column letters below.
| A | B | C | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Board | Inches | Length |
| 2 | Oak | 88 | |
| 3 | Pine | 96 | |
| 4 | Ash | 15 | |
| 5 | Beech | 143 | |
| 6 | Cedar | 11 |
Dividing 88 by 12 gives 7.33, which is neither 7 ft 3 in nor 7 ft 4 in until you work out the fraction. QUOTIENT discards the fraction cleanly and MOD gives it back in the smaller unit, so nothing needs rounding.
