A negative instance number counts from the end.
The document register stores full file paths. In B2:B5 extract just the file name — everything after the last slash.
Solve it on your own to keep the bonus. Each hint gets one step closer to the formula.
The same formula in the other shapes it takes at work.
TEXTAFTER returns everything past a delimiter.
The mirror image of TEXTAFTER.
A negative instance number counts from the end.
The instance number picks which hyphen to split after.
This is the grid you start with. Cell references in the task — B6, C2 — point at the row numbers and column letters below.
| A | B | |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Path | File name |
| 2 | S:/finance/2024/q1/budget.xlsx | |
| 3 | S:/hr/policies/leave.pdf | |
| 4 | S:/ops/rota.xlsx | |
| 5 | S:/sales/2024/leads/north/march.csv |
Each path has a different number of folders, so "after the 3rd slash" works for one row only. Counting from the end makes the depth irrelevant: the file name is always after the last slash.
