Each slice of the amount is charged at its own rate.
A levy charges 10% on the first 10,000 of profit and 20% on everything above that. In C2:C6 give the levy for each company.
Solve it on your own to keep the bonus. Each hint gets one step closer to the formula.
The same formula in the other shapes it takes at work.
A threshold that is itself a calculation, not a fixed number.
MAX(0, …) turns "only if positive" into arithmetic.
Multiply by the result of an IF to switch a premium on and off.
Each slice of the amount is charged at its own rate.
This is the grid you start with. Cell references in the task — B6, C2 — point at the row numbers and column letters below.
| A | B | C | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Company | Profit | Levy |
| 2 | Ardent | 8000 | |
| 3 | Beacon | 10000 | |
| 4 | Coral | 25000 | |
| 5 | Delta | 10500 | |
| 6 | Ember | 0 |
Progressive rates charge each slice separately; they do not apply the top rate to everything. A single IF that picks one rate for the whole profit would charge Delta 2,100 instead of 1,100 — a jump of 1,000 for earning 500 more. MIN and MAX cut the amount into its slices.
